Dear Friend, You have
a chance to be part of something very special this weekend!
It's not very often a chance comes along to support a film that
promotes a positive message about the value of life. It's not very
often that a film garners the praise of so many pro-life and
adoption supporters. And it's not very often that such a film has
been awarded the prestigious "People's Choice Award" from the
Toronto Film Festival.
But the film Bella has done all of this. In short,
this is simply one if the finest movies I have ever seen.
After a strong opening last weekend (despite limited
screenings), Bella is poised to get wider distribution
(even worldwide) if the film continues to do well at the box
office. This weekend could determine whether that happens.
Florida Family Policy Council and I encourage you to consider
going to see Bella and support a film that meets with your
values. Olivia and I are going to see the film again tonight.
Click here
to find out more about the movie Bella.
Click here
to see a list of theatres showing the film in Florida.
Here's a synopsis of the movie from the film company:
Bella is a love story that goes much deeper than romance. A
story about a man who gave up his life to save the girl he loved,
Bella is a heartwarming story that celebrates life, love, family
and relationships. Bella is inspired by a true story that shows
how one day in New York City changed three people's lives forever.
God bless,
John Stemberger

Editorial: Oct 30, 2007- Tallahassee Democrat
Marriage amendment
serves the greater good
My View: By John
Stemberger
(A response to the Tallahassee Democrat Editorial
Opinion, Sept. 30).
The Tallahassee
Democrat published an editorial against
the Florida Marriage Protection Amendment, which
would define marriage as the union of one man and
one woman on the ballot in 2008. The reasons for the
Democrat's
opposition were varied but included arguments that
the amendment was "discriminatory" and the
especially wild claim that "it could have
particularly adverse effects on seniors." Let me set
the record straight.
Current marriage laws do not arbitrarily
discriminate against homosexuals. Thirteen years
ago, I applied for a marriage license in Leon
County. They did not ask me if I had a same-sex
attraction, if I ever had a homosexual experience,
or whether I identified myself as "gay." They did
ask me if I was over the age of 18, marrying someone
over 18, marrying my sister or my cousin, or already
married. They also wanted to know if I was marrying
someone of the opposite sex. If I failed to meet any
one of these legal requirements, then I could not
have obtained the license. The reality is that all
of us have limitations on whom we can marry.
Most of us react negatively to any claim of
discrimination. But every law discriminates in the
sense that it sets forth distinctions and creates
limitations for human behavior. The real question is
whether those limitations are arbitrary and
capricious - or whether they serve a greater purpose
to benefit the common good.
Consider how differently government treats
homeowners versus home renters. Owners get tax
breaks, incentives, protections and other goodies
that renters do not. Is it because we think
homeowners are greater in value, worth or dignity
under the Constitution? No. It is because homeowners
benefit society in unique and important ways that
renters may not. Homeowners typically stimulate the
economy; they take care of properties, and they
create greater stability for communities. It's the
same with natural marriage.
If the only two criteria for marriage are love
and commitment, then where do we draw the line?
Should society allow every person - or groups of
persons - to marry irrespective of age, current
marital status, closeness of familial relations, or
what expression of sexuality they prefer? Of course
not. The institution of natural marriage is not like
a buffet where you can pick and choose whatever you
like best.
Without explanation or analysis, the
Democrat
argues that the marriage amendment could prohibit
people from getting benefits and will adversely
affect senior citizens.
The language of the Florida Marriage Protection
Amendment closely follows the existing state
marriage law and will have the same legal effect.
The amendment defines marriage as the union of a man
and a woman - and then bans polygamy, group
marriages and same-sex marriages. The language does
not prohibit any of the existing domestic
partnerships in Florida. These partnerships grant
only a small bundle of rights such as hospital
visitation and burial rights - all of which
incidentally can be obtained through private
contract and simple estate-planning documents.
Florida domestic partnerships are clearly not
"treated as marriage or the substantial equivalent"
and they are therefore permitted under both the
current law and the proposed amendment. In fact,
Florida courts have already made this clear. The
amendment does not interfere with same-sex benefits
granted by private or public entities for the same
reasons.
Gay men and women are citizens of the United
States of America. They pay taxes, serve in the
military and contribute to our society. They should
be afforded the full dignity, respect and protection
given to all other citizens. However, they should
not be granted special rights to fundamentally
redefine this basic human institution and then force
that definition upon the rest of society through
unelected, activist judges.
John Stemberger is an Orlando attorney and president
of the Florida Family Policy Council He is also
state chairman of Florida4Marriage.org, the official
sponsoring committee for the Florida Marriage
Protection Amendment.
IMPORTANT NOTE :
We are 90 days out from the final legal deadline of
Feb 1, 2007 to submit all petitions. We are still
some 13,000 short according to the official count in
Tallahassee. Yesterday in Fort Lauderdale, we spoke
with a wonderful supporter of ours who said she has
a box of about 1,000 petitions at her house that
have still never been turned in! Please send in any
in your possession ASAP. Lets do all that we can to
finish the job. Ask your pastor to do one final
collection at church. We will need to collect many,
many more over the actual goal needed of 611,009 in
order to make sure we hit the mark safely and avoid
a legal challenge. The official Petitions in PDF
format can be downloaded from our website at
www.Florida4Marriage.org Thanks for all you do
for this historical effort to preserve marriage for
children and the next generation.
PLEASE ALSO HELP US BY FORWARDING THIS EMAIL TO ALL
YOUR FAMILY AND FRIENDS!

“Operation
Armor All”
To all prayer warriors,
intercessors and servants of God in the Greater Orlando area: THIS
IS A CRITICAL PRAYER ALERT!
The “Church of Orlando” has been asked to stand in prayer with the
Chaplains of the Orlando Police Department (OPD) to reclaim our city
from violent crime. “Operation
Armor All” will begin Wednesday, October 10th at 6 PM
at
Parramore Heritage Park
(corner of Church Street and Parramore Avenue).
It will continue there daily, through Nov.18th.
Come out for the initial time of prayer Wednesday, then commit to
supporting these valiant Chaplains throughout this 40 day prayer
effort! The IPNCF will be
praying on site with insight on
October 10th
(Jeremiah 29:7)
and we will also facilitate prayer on
Wednesday, October 24th
3 - 4 PM and again on
October 31st from 6 - 7
PM. NOTE: These are the first and last days of an 8
day octave in which “children of darkness” steep themselves in
Satanic rituals, which often culminate in human sacrifice on
October 31st (a/k/a Halloween.) God forbid! Not on
our watch! Let the “Children of the LIGHT” awaken…arise…
and take your places… standing watch on our City’s wall!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Dear Church
and Community Leaders:
There has been
an unprecedented spike in violent crime in our City
Beautiful. It is time for the people of God to take a stand! We
need your help. Standing on the Word of God, the Chaplains of the
Orlando Police Department are calling all churches to “put on the
whole armor of God…” (Ephesians Chapter 6).
We are asking
you to join us in 40 Days of Prayer to reclaim our city from
violent crime. “Operation Armor All” is being launched on
Wednesday, October 10, and will run through Sunday, November 18.
We are calling on the churches of Orlando to commit to pray
diligently for these 40 days. We are also seeking 40 churches
that will commit to one of the 40 days to lead a one-hour
prayer and praise time in a target community.
Our first 40
days will be at the new Parramore Heritage Park, located at the
corner of Church Street and Parramore Avenue. Chief Michael McCoy
has committed a police presence at each of the 40 day prayer
times. Your church can design its hour of prayer and praise, as
you deem comfortable. Some may prefer multiple public prayers.
Some may want to include praise and worship. Others may prefer a
prayer walk around the beautiful park.
An Orlando
Police Department Chaplain will contact you and assist you in
securing a preferred date. Since we will have many contacts,
please have in mind a first, second and third choice, and we will
try to accommodate your church’s preferred date. If you have any
questions, please feel free to call the Chaplains’
office at (407) 246-3029
and leave a brief voice message, or e-mail Chaplain Jaime Faberlle
at
jaimefaberlle@bellsouth.net.
The support of
you and your church are needed to join in these 40 days of prayer
whether or not you are able to commit to a day.
Join us in prayer that this
emphasis will result in the lowering of the violent crime we have
experienced.
Sincerely,
Andrew T. Wade
Senior
Chaplain
Orlando Police Department
05-23-07 An EXHORTATION re: 24/7 Prayer Rooms for the GDOP
initiative
There have been wonderful
praise reports received from those who have availed themselves of the
GDOP 24/7 Prayer Rooms that have been established here
in Central Florida for the Ten Days of Purification leading up
to the 2007 Global Day of Prayer. How good to hear that this
24/7 Prayer Room experience has blessed them and that they are being
impacted tremendously by participating in the 2007 GDOP.
As each site agreed to
participate by setting up a special 24/7Prayer Room for the
10 Days of Purification, our GDOP Coordinating team was deeply
blessed. Imagine! Six places in Central Florida where we could
come together corporately and pray with focus with others from across
the beautiful Body of Christ. Some would operate 24/7, while others
would be open on various schedules; all would have create a space for
those who would come to press in for what God planned to do in Central
Florida through the GDOP!
As we’ve traveled to visit
these special GDOP 24/7 Prayer Rooms, my heart has become
burdened anew. Despite the information / explanations / materials
distributed, it seems that the role of the 24/7 Prayer Rooms and the
overall GDOP initiative is not yet fully understood or recognized for
what it truly is. Perhaps that is my fault, so may I share a few
highlights, as a refresher for all of us.
This is a global initiative…a
Body-work…with 24/7 prayer at the core. These 24/7 Prayer
Rooms were designated for the purpose of drawing people together
from the Body of Christ in each area for:
10 DAYS of repentance
- so we might be deeply reconciled to God and one another
(purification)
GDOP May 27th
– se we could pray in one accord globally in Sunday services (Prayer
for the World)
SUMMIT ’07 -
the global youth initiative - going to the “HIGH PLACES” – so
youth can be sent out as agents of restoration for the
Kingdom - to reclaim and redeem what we have previously given over
to darkness in our regions – (celebrations scheduled at
regional reporting sites that night)
90 Days of Blessing
– so we might demonstrate our inward transformation by moving
outward into the community by the power of the Holy Spirit (a new
Pentecost) to be HIS hands extended…to touch the world for HIM …starting
with the poor, the hurting, the marginalized… in our own backyard…(this
could be the greatest part of the whole process!)
These six GDOP 24/7
Prayer Rooms in Central Florida are critical and integral to what will
happen here in the Spirit. Hopefully the blessings received in
them will be so profound that many will decide to continue on with
24/7 prayer (WHOP is already there). Yet if not guided through this
GDOP initiative by those who understand what it is all about, these
24/7 Prayer Rooms will be seen as just another “place to pray”…instead
of what they were intended for – to serve as holy places /
incubation chambers / wombs of preparation
for a global “now in
process” birthing!
Here are a few observations
from our recent visits, as we carry the globe and prayer net to each
site, cross pollinating and delivering blessings from one site to the
others…
* The 24/7 at Restoration
- true to the call, Mike has made a deep, personal commitment to the
entire GDOP initiative, and is being blessed for it. (He is
actually radiant…aglow and burning with the Spirit). We spent time
there Sunday evening with him and a dozen others… and hated to leave!
* The 24/7 at Ridgeland
is precious… Sheila, Mark and Sherry are nurturing a small
group, with a hunger for real intimacy - preparing them for the
coming harvest. Our time there was one of depth and healing for
all who were with us.
*
The 24/7 at The Gathering
Place - we were there late Tuesday night with Paula and Al who
were keeping watch at their posts, faithfully fulfilling the agreement
to keep that prayer room open 9 AM – 12M. The atmosphere in that room
has changed significantly since my first visit on Sunday, perhaps due
to the desire in a few people’s hearts to have many more people
involved next year… that gladdened my heart!
(We will be in the TGP
prayer room again tomorrow from 10 AM -12 N, and at CCCI HQ
from 1-4 PM.
Thursday, we visit Hope
International Church in Lake CO and the WHOP prayer room in
East Orange CO)
Feedback / experiences to grow
from… (I pray these
will encourage us to take the steps needed, to renew our commitment to
24/7 prayer and refocus on the GDOP initiative…to finish
the race well.)
“I couldn’t tell if I was
in a 24/7 Prayer Room focused on the GDOP and its initiatives…or
in just a
regular prayer room at a local
congregation”.
“we went there at 3:30 AM
to pray, but no one was there…it was all locked up”
“there has been no
information at our church about the GDOP or the 24/7 Prayer Rooms…
no
notices on our websites, or
e-mail blasts, bulletin inserts, or announcements made about it”
“maybe those who agreed to
participate knew about it, but our congregation sure doesn’t know”
(In several places, the
overall May 27th Global Day of Prayer / Pentecost Sunday
strategy had not yet been
mentioned or announced from the pulpit.)
Forgive me if this sounds as
if I don’t appreciate all the things that have been done with
excellence. I do! Some of you are as passionate about this as I am –
and have been working hard to prepare your prayer rooms. Thank you!
For those who have not taken this as seriously as you might have,
it is still not too late…if we are willing to sacrifice
our time to come together…and call others to do the same.
Let’s fast - pray – and
refocus together, repenting for our national sins and asking God to
once again pour out His Spirit in the earth. Please join me in praying
that our GDOP 24/7 Prayer Rooms will truly be focused on
what they have been established for at this hour…and used
wholly, passionately and persistently for this GDOP initiative
during this 10 day period. We will together rejoice as we
experience the transformational blessings that will surely come to our
lives and communities because of it!
Blessings!
Maureen
Hopefully that is enough to bring us into what God intends through all
of this. (Special thanks to Jenny Tryhane from Barbados
who “constructed” the site in @ 9 hours --- in the wee hours!
She took the materials I’d put in Word docs, and “threw it up”…all the
while praising God for being able to help out! A side benefit to her
labor was that she has now taken the materials back to the Caribbean
to set up observances in Dominique, one of the nations that was not
GLOBAL DAY OF PRAYER --- May 27, 2007
Youth
Prayer Initiative
“SUMMIT
’07”
Praying
on the high places
Imagine youth from this emerging generation in all the nations praying
on the high places around the world on May 27, 2007, the Global Day of
Prayer. Imagine Christians from 220 nations filling up stadiums,
community centers, city squares and churches, interceding as their
youth groups go out to take their positions on the high places, to
repent and cry out to the Lord for the redemption of their nations!
The Global Day of
Prayer, observed on Pentecost Sunday, May 27, 2007 is offering a
unique and exciting challenge to our youth this year. The
assignment is to climb to the high places in their regions all around
the world, and to proclaim the glory of the Lord over their cities,
regions and nations! They will shout from the highest peaks of the
world that the earth and everything on it belongs to the Lord! They
will reclaim their land in Jesus’ Name and proclaim that “the earth
will be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the Lord as the
waters cover the sea” Hab. 2:14.
Summit ’07 is an
opportunity for youth groups to rise to the occasion and summit the
highest places in their communities or regions. Make it a prayer
pilgrimage, or do something prophetic that will speak of commitment to
be radical followers of Christ. Climb a little hill or go to the top
of the highest building in the area…just get out and go to the highest
place you can find. Then repent for national sins, and with lives
fully reconsecrated to God, passionately shout His praise!
Pray as you are
lead to…pray the WORD of God, the promises of God or have a time of
worship. There is NO specific way, JUST DO IT! The effect of the
prayers offer this day will not only reverberate in the heavens, but
will most certainly change our nations. Be creative, adventurous,
spontaneous… as you take relationship with God to the next level.
join others from across Central Florida who will take 20 minutes out
of their day's schedule to pray for our nation. “Meet At City
Hall” is a grassroots initiative, calling people to prayer at
noontime. Take your lunch hour to pray for our country. Connect in
prayer 12:20 PM to 12:40 PM with others who have come to stand in the
gap for the United States. Invite your family, church members,
friends, fellow workers to join you.
SPREAD THE WORD! Contact your
local city government officials and let them know you will be at City
Hall to pray from 12:20 PM to 12:40 PM that day.
Invite Mayors, Commissioners and other public officials to
participate. Keep it simple! Just GO, MEET and PRAY!
The 2007 NDP
theme is “Seek God Together", based on the scripture from II
Chronicles 7:14 "...Seek My face…”
The National Day of Prayer was
established by the Continental Congress, which published
a proclamation setting aside a day of prayer in 1775. In 1952,
the US Congress established an annual day of prayer and, in 1988, that
law was amended, designating the National Day of Prayer as the first
Thursday in May. Together we will call on God to bless America!
We need coordinators at each
site to gather those who come, begin the time of prayer and end it on
time. Contact
steve@visionorlando.org
if you will serve in your city.
April 20, 2007
National Day of Prayer, 2007
A Proclamation by the President of the United States of America
A prayerful spirit has
always been an important part of our national character, and it is a
force that has guided the American people, given us strength, and
sustained us in moments of joy and in times of challenge. On this
National Day of Prayer, we acknowledge God's grace and ask for His
continued guidance in the life of our Nation.
Americans of many faiths
and traditions share a common belief that God hears the prayers of His
children and shows grace to those who seek Him. Following the tragedy
at Virginia Tech, in towns all across America, in houses of worship
from every faith, Americans have joined together to pray for the lives
that were lost and for their families, friends, and loved ones. We
hold the victims in our hearts and pray for those who suffer and
grieve. There is a power in these prayers, and we can find comfort in
the grace and guidance of a loving God.
At this important time in
our history, we also pray for the brave members of our Armed Forces
and their families. We pray for their safety, for the recovery of the
wounded, and for the peace we all seek.
The Congress, by Public Law 100 307, as amended, has called on our
Nation to reaffirm the role of prayer in our society and to respect
the freedom of religion by recognizing each year a "National Day of
Prayer."
NOW, THEREFORE, I, GEORGE W. BUSH, President of the United States of
America, do hereby proclaim May 3, 2007, as a National Day of Prayer.
I ask the citizens of our Nation to give thanks, each according to his
or her own faith, for the freedoms and blessings we have received and
for God's continued guidance, comfort, and protection. I invite all
Americans to join in observing this day with appropriate programs,
ceremonies, and activities.
IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have
hereunto set my hand this twentieth day of April, in the year of our
Lord two thousand seven, and of the Independence of the United States
of America the two hundred and thirty-first.
GEORGE W. BUSH
Amazing Grace
is coming to a
theatre near you
opening Friday Night
On Friday night, February 23, 2007,
the new critically acclaimed movie
Amazing Grace, is opening nationwide in
major cities. This film depicts the real
life story of William Wilberforce, the
Christian member of the British Parliament
who fought to end the slave trade in
England. This wonderful and inspiring major
motion picture was produced by the same
quality artists from Walden Media that gave
us The Chronicles of Narnia - The Lion,
Witch and the Wardrobe and
Charlotte's Web.
I have seen this movie in a pre screening
twice and it is simply outstanding.
Wilberforce was a moral rock and this movie
tells the story of his decades of tireless
work to defeat slavery. The movie also
shows the relationship between Wilberforce
and John Newton, who authored the hymn,
Amazing Grace. The story is moving and
challenges you on a number of levels. This
movie presents an unprecedented opportunity
to bring about racial reconciliation and
envision citizens to become social change
agents in society. For more information on
the movie and to view the trailer and clips
check out
www.AmazingGraceMovie.com.
In some Florida cities, entire theaters are
being bought out on the opening night. It
is important that we pack the house on the
first three days over the weekend so that
the movie will continue for several
weeks/months and not be pulled after the
first week. The Florida cities that will
show the movie are listed below. For
further information on group sales or to buy
out and reserve an entire theater call
1-888-814-7223.
Thank you for your support of this amazing
movie, which testifies to the amazing grace,
of our amazing God.
Sincerely,
John Stemberger
President, Florida Family Policy Council
