Event: Victory In Business-Massive Outreaches to the families in low-income neighborhoods, or those that have a need.
Dates and Times: The first and third Wednesday of each month 11:30AM.
Location: The first Wednesday at Gina's Lakeside Grille in Altamonte Springs; The third Wednesday at International House of Pancakes off of 17-92 in Sanford.
Description: The purpose of Victory in Business is simply the same as our motto, “simply to do good.” Our membership is comprised of businesses, professionals of all professions as well as individuals. We believe that by collectively working together, our works and the aggregate financial donations together, can make a large impact. We support orphanages in several countries as well as missionaries and ministries of many denominations. Victory in Business has helped build churches and feeding centers in third world countries and has organized and funded many local outreaches by providing food, clothing, computers and toys for children and families. Many of our projects are as small and simple as providing playground equipment, landscaping and fencing for a homeless facility to shipping truck loads of food and clothing to storm damaged areas. Our goal is not only to tell people about the Kingdom of God or Jesus, but to show them the love of God and the hand of Christ.

Event: Orlando Consortium on Aids/HIV Kick-off Lunch
Time: 12N-1:30PM
Location: First Presbyterian downtown Orlando
Contact: Paula Lindrum plindrum@fpco.org (RSVP Needed)
One of the great needs of our community, one that spans all races and creeds and socioeconomic backgrounds, is HIV/AIDS. Much emphasis has been given of late to the pressing needs on the continent of Africa, but we have many needs right here in the community of Orlando. For reasons too numerous and complicated to name, the faith community has been slow to respond. I believe our faith compels us to serve the needs of others, and we need to be willing to step into the gaps of our culture where they exist.
In order to address this need, First Presbyterian will host the first Orlando Consortium on AIDS and HIV January 11-12, 2008. Kay Warren, wife of Rick Warren, will be our keynote speaker. Scott Todd, Executive Vice President for Compassion International’s AIDS Project in Africa, will also be a featured speaker. You can see an event summary and schedule below.
As we prepare, the most important thing now is to get the word out. The event is one aimed at the entire community, and anyone with interest or need in this area is welcome. We have no agenda or hidden purpose. We simply want to shine light on a great need and inspire a faith-based response to that need. If you would like to partner with us and hear more about it, I invite you to join us for our kick-off lunch on September 17 from noon to 1:30 p.m. at First Presbyterian downtown. Please RSVP to Paula Lindrum at
plindrum@fpco.org if you are able to attend. Thanks so much for your assistance in spreading the word about this event – I hope it is one that will be both educational and transformational for our churches and community.
Warm regards,
David D. Swanson
ORLANDO COMMUNITY HIV/AIDS CONSORTIUM
January 11-12, 2008
Presented by: ORHS, Abbott Labs
First Presbyterian Church, First Baptist Church, Northland, Calvary Church
City of Orlando, Orange County
Much has been learned about HIV/AIDS. Treatments and medicines are better and more available. The mystery surrounding the disease is far less. Even so, in 2005, there were 1.2 million people living with HIV in the United States and 400,000 with AIDS. Further, 25% of all cases of HIV/AIDS remain undiagnosed.
Even with all the progress, people are afraid. Those with the disease are still stigmatized. There is still shame, and thus, people suffer not only illness, but isolation. In isolation, they lack information and do not get the help that is available.
Because of the social implications of AIDS, many communities are not dealing with the needs head on, and the church has not been of much help either. The purpose of The Orlando Consortium on AIDS and HIV will be to address the issue in a way that will do several things:
increase awareness in the community
reduce the “stigma” by encouraging communities and their leaders, especially churches and their pastors, to talk about AIDS/HIV more openly
increase the number of people being tested
provide inspiration and resources to help faith communities create ministries that address the needs of AIDS/HIV sufferers and their families, including connection with and access to public health systems
unify the faith community around a common goal, and in the process, help remove the barriers that tend to separate us, thus preparing us to deal with future needs more effectively
create a positive response to what the church is doing in the community
